Storytelling: a great tool to deal with anxiety →
We all love stories. Children especially enjoy hearing stories.
I appreciate that there are many great books on feelings, but I use this one regularly and it has such an impact I think it worth mentioning.
The book is called, "The Huge Bag of Worries" by Virginia Ironside.
The story tells of how worries just get bigger and bigger and so they become insurmountable. Children reflect on this concept and understand that their worries can be making them quite sad.
The story has a gentle way of releasing all the worries from the bag and when I read this with children, you can see how they understand that worries can be reduced and managed.
I strongly recommend this book as a way of explaining that sometimes worries can get out of hand and will impact on their day to day life.
